How should I choose hosting for European visitors?
The short answer
Compare regions serving your main European markets, and evaluate performance, total cost and data-handling requirements separately. A European server location alone does not establish GDPR compliance.
In more detail
Choose candidate locations from your actual audience. For a site focused on continental Europe, Frankfurt or Paris may be worth testing; for a UK audience, include London. Use real page requests from your target countries to compare the candidates.
Amazon Lightsail lists Frankfurt, Paris and London among its supported regions. Check the specific plan and services you need in each region, and compare renewal costs, backups, support and migration options before choosing.
Treat data protection as a separate review. A European data center does not by itself make a website GDPR-compliant. Review the provider’s data-processing terms, backup locations, access controls and any data transfers, together with your own handling of visitors’ information.
