Does Cloudways Managed AI Agent pricing include AI model usage?
The short answer
No. Cloudways separates the agent-hosting subscription from usage charged by your chosen model provider. Budget for both, and confirm that you have a supported provider account and API key before choosing Scout or Operator.
In more detail
Cloudways’ setup guide says model usage is charged separately by the selected LLM provider. Its connection guide also requires a valid provider API key for the agent to process requests. A running instance alone therefore does not mean model access is funded or configured.
Our recommendation is to estimate the complete workflow cost before comparing Scout and Operator. Record how many jobs you expect, how many model calls each job makes, and whether retries or long conversations increase usage. Measure a representative sample and use the model provider’s current rates rather than assuming every task costs the same. The infrastructure budget and model budget should be visible as separate lines.
Start with a narrow workflow and review its results and usage before enabling frequent schedules or customer access. Where available, configure spending controls and usage notifications with the model provider. A larger Cloudways instance may help a resource-heavy workflow, but it is not a substitute for choosing an appropriate model or controlling unnecessary calls. Compare the final deployment charge and model account costs together before committing.
