Is a Contabo VPS snapshot enough, or should I add Auto Backup?

The short answer

A snapshot can preserve a chosen state, but it is not a daily recovery history. Auto Backup adds daily off-server copies for eligible Core VPS and Performance VPS plans. Choose according to how often your data changes and how far back you need to recover.

In more detail

For a server that changes rarely, a snapshot before an upgrade can be useful. For a site that receives new orders or uploads every day, a scheduled history addresses a different need. Contabo currently documents daily Auto Backups retained for up to ten days.

The add-on covers Core VPS and Performance VPS, not Storage VPS or Cloud VDS. Verify the product family and include add-on charges when comparing plans. A restore overwrites current VPS data and causes downtime while it completes.

Our recommendation is to set your recovery target first. If losing a day's updates is unacceptable, supplement a daily server copy with an application-level method suited to the data. If corruption might remain unnoticed for weeks, keep a longer independent history rather than relying only on a short rolling window.

Decide who can authorize recovery, how newer records will be preserved, and how you will tell users about an interruption. Test the process before an incident. A backup feature should make your recovery plan workable, not merely add a checked box to the specification.
