Can I run Windows on a Contabo VPS or VDS using my own license?

The short answer

Windows Server is available as an add-on for Contabo VPS and VDS, using a Contabo-provided license. Its documentation does not permit bringing your own Windows license to these virtual servers. Include licensing in the full cost comparison.

In more detail

Windows support does not mean that Windows is included in the base server price. Contabo's VPS and VDS documentation requires its own supplied Windows Server license, so a comparison should include that add-on as well as the server itself. A license you already own is not a substitute under this product policy.

Our selection advice is to start with the application's operating-system requirement. If the software specifically needs Windows Server, check the supported version and any separate application or remote-access licensing before ordering. If the same workload runs on Linux and your team can maintain it there, compare that route on total operating cost.

Allow memory and disk space for the operating system, security updates and the application together. A plan that meets the application's minimum requirements may leave little working room once everything is installed. Test the real workload instead of treating the cheapest eligible plan as automatically adequate.

For an existing server, plan an operating-system change as a migration task. Contabo documents that reinstalling erases disk data. Make a recoverable copy, record the configuration and verify that the application can be rebuilt before requesting the change.
