What should I check before running live n8n workflows on HostGator VPS?

The short answer

Check persistent data, the public webhook address, HTTPS and restart behavior before connecting real business workflows. HostGator supplies the VPS infrastructure; its n8n offer still requires you to install, configure and maintain the automation environment.

In more detail

HostGator's n8n page describes a self-managed deployment using methods such as Docker or Node.js. Its support scope is infrastructure, while the customer maintains n8n and workflows. The n8n documentation also calls for persistent container data and appropriate public webhook configuration when using a reverse proxy.

Our recommendation is to test one harmless workflow from the actual external service that will trigger it. Confirm that the public HTTPS address reaches the correct workflow, then restart the server or container in a controlled test and verify that credentials and workflow settings remain available. A successful test inside the editor does not prove an outside system can deliver a production event.

Define who will handle updates, failed executions and expired integration credentials. Test repeated events so an automatic retry does not create duplicate orders or messages. Compare the listed NVMe VPS tiers after measuring that realistic workflow, and leave room for stored execution history. Choose self-hosting when your team can operate the complete process, not merely launch the application once.
